What is Programmatic Advertising?

Programmatic advertising is automated buying and selling of digital advertising through centralised computer-driven and exchanges and related databases and management platforms.

It's designed to largely replace the old-school human powered aspects to buying and selling advertising through agencies and ad networks, with the goal of driving more efficiency and transparency to both advertisers and publishers.

According to Business Insider, advertisers and publishers are rapidly adopting programmatic ad-buying and selling tools. More than four-fifths of agencies and brands already purchase display ads programmatically, while an even greater proportion of publishers are pursuing programmatic channels as part of their sales strategies, according to surveys and conversations with industry participants.
